“Face-Changing” Rod Puppetry Performance

I performed the “face-changing” stunt in an original musical by Nanjing Arts University. Puppetry "face-changing" in Sichuan Opera is when a single performer manipulates the puppet to cycle through eight different-colored faces, with each change lasting only an instant, followed by a fire-spitting performance.

Long-Silk Dance Rod Puppetry Performance

At the 80th Puppeteers of America Festival, I performed a long-silk dance with rod puppet. A photo from this performance was featured on the cover of the Puppeteers of America Journal; I was the first Asian to appear on the journal’s cover. 

Traditional Culture into Campus: Lecture and Performance

My puppetry masters and I organized a series of educational sessions entitled “Traditional Culture into Campus." We’ve performed, taught students, and lectured about the history of rod puppetry at universities, middle and primary schools across the country.

Open-air Shadow Puppet Performances in Xuzhou &Nanjing

Together with puppeteers from around the world, I organized multiple open-air performances at historic sites in Nanjing and Xuzhou. The event was named "Back to the Happy Childhood Life of Grandpa and Grandma" and sought to reproduce scenes from everyday Chinese life a half-century ago.

Rod Puppetry Class at “Meeting Puppetry” Workshop

The workshop invited 11 puppeteers from around the world to teach courses in 4 genres: shadow puppetry, hand puppetry, rod puppetry, and marionettes.

We integrated modern technology with traditional Chinese Shadow Puppetry: instead of using the traditional paper screen method, we used an overhead projector and new materials to create puppets.
